Summer Programs Description Application Process
Catalyst The Catalyst Summer Program is a 2-week program that offers a unique, interdisciplinary approach to the “traditional leadership program”. It provides the opportunity to build, test, research, present and collaborate on projects rooted in Engineering design, business and entrepreneurship and research. Participants will build leadership skills while working on STEM-related projects and attending talks and workshops from Graduate students and Faculty. The Summer program provides the opportunity for participants to gain experience practicing design thinking and problem-solving learning how to build ideas into a business and use their technical skills! The Catalyst Summer Program is only open to current high school students (entering grade 10 or higher) and each applicant must submit an application in order to complete registration. Applications are considered in three rounds, Each session will be restricted to approximately twenty-five students. If you are not accepted in a round, you will still be considered in the subsequent rounds. Monitor the waterloo website for application due dates!
Quantum School for Young Students QSYS is a unique enrichment program for high school students that offers a blend of expert lectures, small group discussions, problem solving, and opportunities for mentoring and networking with world-leading quantum researchers. Up to 45 students will be invited to QSYS. At QSYS, you will: see how the world works at the quantum level; understand phenomena like quantum superposition and entanglement; learn how quantum technology will transform computing, imaging and cryptography. Applications require one reference letter and a written discussion paper and QSYS prefers applications to be in Grade 11 or 12.
SPARC NYU Tandon's Summer Program for Automation Robotics and Coding (SPARC) is a two-week, full-day summer program for introducing rising 9th through 12th high school students to the basics of robotics, mechatronics and programming on the NYU Tandon Downtown Brooklyn campus. SPARC is best suited for academically strong students with an interest, but not necessarily experience in robotics. The total cost for tuition is $2,100.00 USD for approximately 50 instructional hours Additionally, there is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee for each application. CSSI CSSI is an online, four-week introduction to computer science (CS) for rising first year college students with a passion for technology — especially students who identify with groups that have been historically marginalized in the field. A project-based curriculum designed to prepare students for their first year of college pursuing CS or a related major. They have developmental workshops each week to promote self-care, identity, career, and skill development through daily interaction with peers, Google engineers, and industry professionals. They also provide exposure and insight into Google’s internship programs and technical career opportunities. The program is run virtually during the summer. To complete the application you are required to complete a couple short essay responses and submit your transcript. In order to be eligible you must satisfy the following: Intend to be enrolled as a full-time student majoring in computer science or related majors in a 4-year BA/BS program in the US, or Canada in Fall 2022, and have completed a high school Algebra course plus AP Computer Science Principles if offered. The application process and enrollment is free.
